Safe storage and transportation of special gases

Specialty gases are diverse and can generally be classified into electronic gases, standard gases, welding gases, sterilizing gases, etc. They are widely used in fields such as electronics, power, petrochemicals, mining, steel, non-ferrous metal smelting, thermal engineering, biochemistry, environmental monitoring, medical research and diagnosis, and food preservation.

    Safe storage and transportation

1. Special vehicle transportation for dangerous goods is carried out directly by the manufacturer, with qualified escorts and experienced porters to handle the goods with care.

2. The bottle caps must be worn properly to prevent the bottle valves from being knocked open during sudden braking of the vehicle or during loading and unloading, especially when transporting flammable gases such as high-purity hydrogen.

3. It is prohibited to mix high-purity oxygen, air and flammable gases. At the same time, smoking and open flames are strictly prohibited, and fire-fighting equipment should be provided on the means of transportation.

4. During summer transportation, sunshade facilities should be provided to prevent exposure to direct sunlight.

5. There is a dedicated gas warehouse for storage. The gas cylinder warehouse should be well-ventilated, dry and clean, avoiding direct sunlight. The gas cylinder storage area should be clearly marked with the words “Gas cylinder Storage” and display appropriate hazard signs (such as flammable, explosive, toxic, etc.).

6. There should be dedicated personnel in charge of management, acceptance verification, registration and distribution to ensure that there are records for reference.

7. Whether in the warehouse or the usage site, empty bottles and full bottles should be placed separately and clearly marked. Toxic gas cylinders and the gases inside them can cause combustion and explosion when in contact. Gas cylinders that produce toxic substances should be stored in separate rooms, and anti-toxic equipment and fire extinguishing equipment should be set up nearby.

8. When placing gas cylinders, the cylinder caps should be properly worn. When placed upright, it should be properly fixed to prevent the bottle from toppling over and damaging the bottle valve.

9. When gas cylinders are used outdoors, they should be protected to prevent rust and erosion. Regular inspections should be conducted on inventory cylinders. If there are any uncertainties or doubts about color marks, certificates of conformity, leakage, etc., contact the manufacturer promptly. Only after analysis and confirmation can they be used.

10. Additionally, the gas procurement plan should be made as much as possible based on the actual production needs, with immediate purchase and immediate use, to prevent the use of expired gas cylinders and reduce many unsafe factors at the same time.

It is recommended that units engaged in the production and sale of special gases wear anti-fouling caps on the bottle mouths when the products leave the factory. It is suggested that the transportation department produce special gas cylinder transport vehicles.
